Break Through the Fog: 5 Focus Fixes for Faith-Driven Leaders

5 Focus Problems Entrepreneurs Told Me This Week (And How We Fix Them)

Most entrepreneurs and professionals don't fail because they lack talent. They fail because they live in a fog. Too many ideas, too many responsibilities, and far too many distractions can cloud the vision of even the most gifted leaders.

I am currently in the middle of creating Fog to Focus, the most comprehensive framework I have ever built to help authentic entrepreneurs and professionals escape distraction and build focused momentum toward their God-honoring goals.

A few days ago, I shared some of this new content during a masterclass and asked the participants what specific challenges they are facing right now. Their answers were powerful and honest. If one of these challenges sounds like you, you may want to join our next Fog to Focus Masterclass here: [Insert Link]

CHALLENGE #1 — STAYING FOCUSED ON ONE THING AT A TIME

Focus means Following One Course Until Successful. ZM shared that this is their primary struggle. It is a common one; the Apostle Paul spoke to this persistent effort in his own life:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Every meaningful goal will encounter resistance. Most people lose focus because they lack clarity on what they truly want, haven't prioritized the next step, or lack accountability. In Fog to Focus, we solve this with the Priority Power Plan. We believe in micro-steps so clear you cannot fail at taking them. Clarity first, then focused action.

    CHALLENGE #2 — MAINTAINING CONSISTENCY

FJ from Dallas expressed that consistency is the biggest hurdle. Day one of a new habit is easy; day thirty is where the resistance shows up. Scripture reminds us that life moves in cycles:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

In my 5 Colors to Grow concept, we recognize seasons of planting (Black), hard work (Brown), learning (Yellow), and refreshment (Blue) that lead to growth (Green).

When you recognize your season, you make better choices about when to push and when to rest. I remember a time at Keystone, Colorado, where I kept falling down the same spot on a mountain because I had subconsciously sabotaged myself. Only when I changed my internal dialogue did I find success. Learning to think differently teaches your brain to work for you instead of against you.

    CHALLENGE #3 — BALANCING SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM GOALS

LB asked how to focus on both simultaneously. I often think of a professional marksman who must see the target clearly while simultaneously looking down the sight of the rifle. That is exactly how goals work. You must keep the long-term vision in view while focusing on the immediate daily priority.

Years ago, I kept a picture of a beach above my desk with a specific date written beside it. In June of last year, I finally stood on that beach in Bali, Indonesia. Clear vision has a powerful way of pulling you forward even when the daily grind feels heavy.

CHALLENGE #4 — ONLY FOCUSING UNDER PRESSURE

J from Edmonton shared a tendency to leave things until “crunch time.” While deadlines work, living under constant pressure is exhausting. This is actually a priority management issue, not just a time management one. When you simplify your priorities, you begin saying “no” to the good things so you can say “yes” to the right things. Fog to Focus helps you simplify so you experience less pressure and more progress.

CHALLENGE #5 — ORGANIZING DAYS AFTER RETIREMENT

One participant, I, just retired after 31 years in IT and wants to organize days around exercise, sketching, and caregiving. Retirement is not the end of purpose; it is the beginning of rediscovering it. We all need a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Clarity about your “Why” becomes even more vital in this new season.

These challenges are perfect examples of being in the Fog, but there is always an opportunity to move toward Focus and eventually experience Freedom. Most people stay in the fog, but those who learn to focus long enough eventually experience the freedom God intended for them.

If these stories sound familiar, I would love to see you at the next Fog to Focus Masterclass. Reserve your spot here: [Insert Link]

For now, I am headed out to celebrate my granddaughter’s 5th birthday. It’s a wonderful reminder of what matters most.

    Dream. Focus. Lead.
